How it works
- Get the file. Export a GPX or TCX from Komoot, Strava, Garmin Connect or RideWithGPS โ or pick a route from the WattLog.pro library.
- Drop it in. Before you start, WattLog.pro draws the route on a map with its elevation profile, distance and climbing.
- Ride. Pair your trainer and go. The resistance follows the gradient under your virtual wheel โ every 50 metres, keyed to the distance you have ridden, not to a clock.
Two ways to ride a route
The real road
SIM mode sends the route's gradient to your trainer. You choose the gear and the effort, your speed comes from your watts, and a climb lasts as long as your legs make it last.
A workout shaped like the route
Short on time? Turn a saved route into an ERG workout: each stretch becomes a block at a share of your FTP set by its gradient, compressed into the minutes you have and capped at the zone you choose. A 160 km route fits into a 60-minute session.
What you need
- A Bluetooth (FTMS) smart trainer that sets its own resistance โ virtually every smart trainer made since 2018. Check your model.
- Chrome or Edge on a computer, or the app for macOS, iOS or Android. Devices and browsers.
- A GPX or TCX file up to 8 MB, with elevation in it. A file without elevation rides flat.
- Nothing else. WattLog.pro is free โ no subscription, no trial, no credit card. Not ready for an account? Start as a guest.
No file? Start from the library
The route library in the app holds hundreds of official cycle routes โ EuroVelo plus national and regional networks in Poland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland โ with elevation from the Copernicus DEM, ready to ride.
Training for something steeper? Our famous climbs โ Alpe d'Huez, the Stelvio, Mont Ventoux and more โ come with a climb-time calculator and a link to ride them on your trainer.
Questions
Is it really free?โ
Yes. Route import, SIM and ERG rides, the route library and the post-ride analysis are all free. WattLog.pro is funded by supporters, not subscriptions.
Which files work?โ
GPX and TCX up to 8 MB. Garmin FIT files can't be imported as a route yet โ export the course as GPX instead. Strava, Komoot, Garmin Connect and RideWithGPS all offer GPX export.
Does my trainer follow the gradient exactly?โ
It follows the gradient your trainer can produce. Direct-drive trainers typically simulate 15โ25%, wheel-on trainers less. WattLog.pro smooths the elevation profile and sends a new gradient every 50 metres, so GPS noise doesn't turn into sudden walls.
Can I ride without saving the route?โ
Yes. Ride straight after the preview, or save the route to find it under Routes later. Turning a route into an ERG workout needs a saved route.
Ride your first route tonight
Pick a GPX, open WattLog.pro in Chrome or the app, pair your trainer. The whole setup takes about as long as filling your bottle.
