About the climb
The Gavia from Ponte di Legno climbs from the top of the Val Camonica in Lombardy, northern Italy, up to 2618 m. It starts at 1249 m and covers 17.3 km with 1371 m of climbing at 7.9% on average.
The first 3 km are moderate at 3 to 6%, then two kilometres at 9 to 10% give a first taste. The hardest part on our track comes between 6 and 8 km, where 500 m sections at 12% and 14% alternate with 7%, and the steepest 200 m reaches 18%. After that the road settles at 7 to 9% until about 14 km, before a final steep spell, mostly at 9 to 11%, and an easier last 500 m to the pass.
Pacing tip: at 3.0 W/kg a 75 kg rider takes 1 h 34 min. Do not let the 6 to 8 km section pull you far above your target power; there are still almost 10 km of climbing after it.

Real climbs take longer when you start too hard, stop, or ride into a headwind. Treat the number as the pace to aim for, not a promise.
