About the climb
The Malaucène side of Mont Ventoux climbs from the north-west, in the Vaucluse department of Provence. It starts at 335 m and tops out at 1886 m after 21.0 km: 1553 m of climbing at 7.4% on average, almost the same numbers as the Bédoin side but spread differently.
This side gets going sooner. From 1.5 km to 5 km the gradient sits at 7 to 10%, followed by a 500 m breather at 3%. The middle section rolls between 5 and 8%, and then comes the hardest part: from 10 to 13.5 km almost every 500 m averages 9 to 11%. A short easier stretch around 15 km gives way to one more steep 500 m at 11%, and the final 5 km hold 5 to 9%. The steepest 200 m reaches 12.6%.
Pacing tip: the calculator gives 1 h 47 min at 3.0 W/kg for a 75 kg rider. Plan to be at your target power, not above it, when you reach 10 km: that is where this side is decided.

Real climbs take longer when you start too hard, stop, or ride into a headwind. Treat the number as the pace to aim for, not a promise.
