About the climb
Mont Ventoux stands alone above Provence, in the Vaucluse. This side starts in Bédoin (311 m) and climbs 21.2 km to 1888 m: 1577 m of climbing at 7.4% on average, the longest route on this list after the Stelvio.
The profile splits into three parts. The first 4.5 km rise gently, at 1 to 6%. Then, from about 5 km, the road kicks up into a long, unbroken stretch: nine kilometres where nearly every 500 m averages 9 to 11%. After 14 km it relents to 5 to 8% for a while, before the last 3 km climb at 8 to 10% again, easing only in the final 200 m. The steepest 200 m on our track is 12.7%.
Pacing tip: the easy opening is a trap. At 3.0 W/kg (75 kg rider, 8 kg bike) the climb takes 1 h 49 min, so hold your target power in the first 5 km rather than chasing speed, and keep your effort steady once the gradient settles above 9%.

Real climbs take longer when you start too hard, stop, or ride into a headwind. Treat the number as the pace to aim for, not a promise.
