About the climb
The Angliru climbs from La Vega de Riosa in Asturias, northern Spain. It rises from 310 m to 1567 m in 12.4 km: 1257 m of climbing at 10.1% on average, and the steepest 200 m on our track reaches 21.6%.
The climb comes in two halves. The first 5 km are a solid but manageable 4 to 10%, followed by a kilometre at only 2 to 3%. Then the second half begins: from 6 km to 12 km the gradient sits at 11 to 18% in every 500 m section, about 14% on average over those six kilometres. The steepest 500 m (18%) comes around 10.5 km, and only the last few hundred metres ease to 8%.
Pacing tip: at 3.0 W/kg a 75 kg rider takes 1 h 24 min. Ride the first half clearly below your target power and use the easy kilometre to settle your breathing: everything difficult on this climb comes after 6 km.

Real climbs take longer when you start too hard, stop, or ride into a headwind. Treat the number as the pace to aim for, not a promise.
